WRIGLEY AREA, LONG BEACH,
CALIFORNIA
Located north of downtown Long Beach, South of
the 405 Freeway, East of the Los Angeles River and 710 Freeway, and West
of Long Beach Boulevard, the Wrigley community began as a development named
for the one-time owner of Catalina Island and the chewing-gum manufacturer
of the same name. The homes were built mostly in the 30's and 40's,
and range from Spanish to California Ranch style homes with a few art deco
style homes. It is an attractive residential area which has recently
gone through a renaissance with the development of the Wrigley Market Place
anchored by Albertsons and Savon. A new Rite-Aid has gone in caddy
corner to the Market Place, and a new Walgreens is under construction just
up the street. Major local employers include Long Beach Memorial
Medical Center, Pacific Hospital (both in Wrigley), Boeing, the City of
Long Beach and the Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach State
University, Long Beach City College and many small businesses. Located
on the border of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, Long Beach is also a
prime commuter destination.
Veterans Park features large green, ball field, play ground and
recreation buildings.
The Wrigley Market Place features grocery, restaurants, shops and Blue
Line Commuter Parking.
Wardlow Station at Wardlow & Pacific provides Light Rail &
Bus Service.
